David was first elected to serve the residents of the Hipperholme and Lightcliffe ward including Bailiff Bridge, Hove Edge, Norwood Green and Shibden in 2000, and has served them continuously to date. David has been a cabinet member for Regeneration and Development and Public Health, he has also served as Chair of the Planning Committee. David also represents Calderdale on the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services Board.

When David entered politics in 2000, he was employed as a senior contracts manager for one of the largest housing companies in the country.
